How an online school works in Brazil: routine, certification, and diploma.

For a family that has always enrolled its children in physical schools, the idea of an "online school" can sound abstract. How can it be a school if there is no building? And the classmates? And the teachers? How does my child learn sitting at home? These are fair questions — and they deserve concrete answers, not slogans.

This article is a detailed response for those encountering the possibility of an online school for the first time. We will describe, faithfully, how the routine, the platform, the certification, and the diploma work — using Acutis Academy as the reference, since that is the case we know best.

Live classes + recorded classes

Acutis's online school works with two kinds of class that complement each other:

• Live classes — at set times, with the cohort connected simultaneously. The teacher is at home, anywhere in Brazil or the world, and gives class by videoconference. Children interact, ask questions, take part.
• Recorded classes — so the student can review content, make up a missed class, or go deeper into specific topics at their own pace.

The class load varies by level: Kindergarten has a short, gentle routine; Elementary School reaches seven live hours per week; Middle School, thirteen; High School, twenty-two. Live class times are mostly in the morning, in Brasília time — which leaves the afternoon free for assignments, sports, family life, and extracurricular activities.

The study platform

All academic life takes place on the Acutis Moodle platform. That is where the schedule, the live-class links, the recordings, the course materials, the assignments, the grades, and the school-year calendar all live. The child and the parents have access through their own logins.

For parents, the platform is also an open window onto the child's progress. Grades, attendance, submitted assignments, teacher comments — all accessible in real time. There is no need to wait for the quarterly report card to understand whether the child is doing well.

In a traditional school, you only know how your child is doing on the report card. In a well-structured online school, you know every day.

The family's role in daily life

This is where most of the doubt comes — and most of the relief after the explanation. The family does not replace the teacher. The child does not sit alone studying while the mother explains math on the sofa. The Acutis teacher teaches, grades, assesses, follows along.

The family's role is that of any family with a child in school:

• Make sure the child is in front of the computer at class time

Enrollment certificate and diploma

Every Acutis student receives, upon enrolling, a formal enrollment certificate. This document is valid for any legal purpose: proof for the Child Protection Council, justification for absences from other commitments, institutional record.
